http://tonatom.net/

«tonAtom is a germany-based online-label for netaudio (elektro, ambient and experimental) and netvideo (netaudio music clips and experimental short films). we find and promote new and interesting artists and give an appropriate platform to side-projects of established artists.

tonAtom was founded by matthias reinwarth in march, 2002 and is working as a non-profit alternative to the established label and publishing system. our team provides for the plattform as well as the selection of the artists and their releases thus working towards a continued high quality of our products and an indistinguishable style of the tonAtom label.

tonAtom interfaces with commercial, "old-style" labels, because the offerings and services are clearly complementary. tonAtom will always stay non-profit and non-commercial. especially the work of our a&r-team cannot be influenced, we develop the tonAtom-style independently from possible partnerships.

tonAtom ist not "yet another mp3-portal". we understand that conducting an online label such as this means searching and promoting promising artists apart from mass platforms and the classical media. tonAtom means quality und originality. the newly added netvideo offerings show the holistic approach in both acoustic and visual arts.

tonAtom features on a non-profit basis complete cd/ep-releases through the tonAtom website. doing this we create an own alternative culture for elektro/ambient/experimental record releases.»

«2063music is a netlabel for interesting music - are unique and individual. We will cover a big variety of sounds on the exploration of heard and unheard territories in mind. 2063music was founded by 020200 in 1999 with the goal to conserve that feeling from the childhood days of sitting in front of the radio while trying to get the right frequencies. Still the difference is, that the net offers a bigger variety than radio today.»

http://www.stadtgruenlabel.net/

«The german word Stadtgruen describes the urban parks and gardens where the modern spirit can ground itself and harmonize with its roots.

The netlabel Stadtgruen would like to consider the alive contradiction which lies in the fundamental but vivid antithesis of culture (stadt) and nature (gruen). A basic idea of the occidental culture is the rational division of the world into two parts. Body and spirit, nature and culture, on this side and hereafter are dialectic poles of our world recognition that is reflected in our living together, our language and our arts. Each human generation has got the task to analyze this relationship anew, to set its own point of view and to create a new synthesis. Thereby sometimes naturalness is outweighing, sometimes artificiality, depending upon the evolution step and the technical possibilities.

With the progressive digitization of our world a new level of artificiality is reached. Reality is doubled digitally and demands nature on an even higher step.

The arts have the function to make this new challenge transparent: they can polarize in order to get on a higher level of recognition, but they have to harmonize again the separated in their work in order to bring the recognized back to live.

In addition, the global digitization contributed to the fact that art is no longer an elitist affair. Nowadays many people all over the world can take part in the building up and approximation of their cultures. Stadtgruen wants to set a highlight on those people which avail themselves of the possibilities of contemporary electronics, in order to create their musical contribution for the harmonization of the contrasts: this is our special matter of concern.

We promote clear artistic statements which want to reach new levels of musical synthesis beyond separating analysis. We take our mission minimal concepts for you pleasure seriously. Beyond retrospective chilling music, we present artists who are able to integrate the dynamic development of those contemporary electronics into their own innovative concepts, and to transform them into new harmonies. Thereby our music-theoretical starting point is the classical Minimal Music with its current developments of the Clicks&Cuts scene, Minimal Dub and Minimal Techno.

For us stadt+gruen depicts no longer an antithesis, but poles causing each other within the virulent electronic culture of the third millennium. To show this principle both in whole and in part, we are going to present the more urban aspects of music as [stadt] and its more natural side as [gruen].»

«Yuki Yaki is an artists' platform in the area of electronic media.
Our aim is to make interesting works accessable to a public and to promote the artists.
The most part of the releases will be musical works.
As we do not believe in cataloguing music, it is very hard for us to put any limits here. Nevertheless we are mainly interested in music from the field of minimal techno, electronica or clicks'n'cuts.
However, the focus is always on originality and acting on one's own initiative, so the question of style becomes secondary.»

http://www.subsource.de/

«Subsource offers contemporary electronic music in an unconventional form: you can download or stream it directly from the internet for free. You may want to sort Subsource into drawers like experimental electronic music, ambient music, refreshing beats, noise, glitch or something but there are no specific style directions, except perhaps 'ambient music' ... but everything can be ambient music depending on the environment. So Subsource don't want to make a stylized list of its music. Each release was made out of a specific mood and environment and it shows you this environment while you listen to it.

Subsource is splitted into two parts:
First there are subsource releases called soundscapes. Independent musicians and sound artists ['subsource scientists'] are releasing their albums and EPs in this section.
Then there are instant DJ Sets or submixes. You will find a great collection of DJ Sets on subsource playing only free music. Compiled and mixed by Digital Jockes using software instead of turn tables. These sets may give you an overview about [free] electronic music or they are simply made for awake, dance or sleep with.

Subsource is now located in Nürnberg / Germany and is managed by Dirk Murschall aka [in]anace since 1999.»

http://www.thinner.cc

«In summer of 1998 the swedish guy Thomas Jaldemark decided to start a netlabel dedicated to minimal techno, driven by the idea to create a platform for releasing own works and tracks from his friends. Thomas was quite close to the PC demomusic- scene, and he announced Thinner releases on various demoscene webboards, mailinglists and on certain channels on ircnet.

The organizers of Thinner, Thomas Jaldemark and Sebastian Redenz, share a vision to create a nonprofit, "educational" webproject dealing with dubtechno, static minimalism, urban electronica, other new forms of techno & plain 4/4 techno. They are highly motivated in creating a sophisticated and highquality mp3netlabel dealing with such music. Thomas was already running a techno netlabel called Thinner so we decided to set a new profile for it. The third generation of Thinner will split from its demoscene roots and promote itself to the interested electronica audience out there on the internet and make lots of new contacts. For more info about the purpose and about the organizers you can look in our Info section.

As our first release we give you a splitep with four very good tracks from 4 different artists. Pheek (CAN), van der Rohe (US), Thomas Jaldemark (SWE) and Digitalverein (DE) will give you an idea what kind of music Thinner will release. Look in the releases section for reviews, more info and download links.

The first Thinner releases were very liked, and due to that lots of people became interested in releasing on Thinner. Thomas had lots of tracks incoming from various artists like Hakan Samuelsson, Mty, Cemik, Patrik B, Tommi Malinen and Dr. Vanskapt, and most of them became released. Though Thinner grew up quite fast Thomas always ran the office alone and organized everything by himself. The peak was Thinner having 6 members. After just 1 year Thinner had 35 ep releases, from minimal techno over electro to detroit techno.

During late summer 1999 Thomas got amazed by other streams in electronic music and stopped running the techno-orientated Thinner. He began to compose ambient and idm-music for other netlabels. Some of the Thinner musicians became professional producers and left Thinner for vinyl purpose.

Another group was formed called "Abnormal Music", ran by friends of Thomas, so he himself fully concentrated on this label. But quite after some time the heads of "Abnormal Music" stopped their internet activities, after almost 70 releases in module and mp3 format "Abnormal Music" closed. Thomas thought about opening Thinner again and so he did. Though all of the former releases remained "out of stock" and are from nowhere to download anymore.

The resurrection of Thinner took place on June 1st 2000 with it's 36th release - "Forest" by Teori. On the second generation of Thinner Thomas had a new concept - quality then quantity. He wanted to have more "decent" music to be released on Thinner - tracks with more original ideas and professional programming. Though the amount of releases decreased compared to original Thinner due to two main reasons - the reputated technomusicians in the demoscene began to work with professional softsynths and produced mp3s - a format which didn't suit in Thinner at this time. The other "plain" reason was just that less good technomusic was composed.

After it's 50th module release, a "Thinner" showcase, the 2nd generation of Thinner will stop being a modulelabel and apply itself to the leading format for musicfiles - mp3. The third Thinner generation is born.

In early 2001 Thomas met the german guy Sebastian Redenz who introduced him to the deeper grounds of minimal techno music. Thomas reached the point Sebastian already passed - the hard/detroit techno music lacked lots of innovation and became very boring lately. So with the help of Sebastian he made himself familiar with dubtechno, static minimalism, urban electronica and other new streams of digital music and found a new audiophonic home. Since Sebastian has organizing talents aswell, both heads share the vision to create a nonprofit, "educational" webproject dealing with such, "electronica" most generally called music. They merged in their theories and decided to set a new profile for the label "Thinner". New paths professionality are taken - the third generation of Thinner will split from its demoscene roots and promote itself to the interested electronica audience out there in the internet and make lots of new contacts.

By today, the head of Thinner is Sebastian Redenz, meanwhile based in Mannheim/Germany. I'm still highly motivated in leading a sophisticated mp3label and vinyllabel dealing with various electronic music, such as dub influenced techno and house, urban electronica or soulful four-to-the-floor beats and with the help of our numerous friends out there on the net we aim for a higher state of consciousness.»
